As a security measure, we advise all visitors to check weather conditions to avoid accidents caused by flash floods.

Below you can see a short message from Commissioner Nino Correa of the Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration - NMEAD

Our Story

This project originates after several tourists visited the La Soplaera River in Peñuelas PR on October 8, 2022 and were swept away by a surge of water in which two women, Jackie and Jessie (my daughter), perished; in their memory and with the goal of avoiding more drowning victims, we want to urge visitors to stay aware of weather conditions, especially in bodies of water.

Below you can see three real-life comparisons from the day of the event related to the weather changes that occurred within a 30-minute period from the time of arrival, river swim visit, and water impact. * courtesy of one of the DU survivors

In Memory of
Jacqueline and Jessie
